Configuring TCP/IP in Windows 2000 and XP

  1. Click the Start button on your Windows taskbar, choose Settings, and click Control Panels.

  2. Double-click the Network and Dial-up Connections icon.

  3. Right-click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties.

  4. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the Components list and click the Properties button.

  5. Select the radio buttons labeled Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically.

  6. Click the OK button to close the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.

  7. Click OK again to finish.

  8. If you are prompted to restart your computer, click the Yes button.

Now that you have configured the TCP/IP settings for your primary computer, you'll need to configure your computer's Internet settings.
