Configuring the Client Manager—PCMCIA for Windows 95, 98, NT, and 2000

After your computer has restarted completely, there will be a staircase icon in your system tray (at the bottom-right of the screen). This staircase displays signal strength. You have not joined your wireless home network, so the staircase will not be colored in.

To configure the Client Manager:

  1. Double-click the staircase icon in your system tray. The Client Manager will open.

  2. From the Actions menu, select Add/Edit Configuration Profile.

  3. Select the radio button next to the first box and type in the Wireless Network Name that you wrote down while configuring your HomePortal for wireless networking.

  4. From the pull-down menu to the right of the first row, choose Access Point.

  5. Click the Edit Profile button to open the Edit Configuration window.

  6. Click the Basic tab, and in the Network Name field, once again type in the Wireless Network Name.

  7. Click the Encryption tab.

  8. Check the box labeled Enable Data Security.

  9. From the pull-down menu labeled Encrypt data transmission using, select Key 1.

  10. Select Use Hexadecimal.

  11. In the field to the right of Key 1, type in the exact encryption key that you wrote down while configuring the HomePortal for wireless networking. It will appear as asterisks.

  12. Click the OK button.

  13. Click OK again to return to the Add/Edit Configuration window.

  14. Click OK to finish.

  15. The staircase icon will now be green, indicating that your wireless network adapter is receiving a signal from the HomePortal. If it's not green, please call Technical Support. See Contacting Technical Support.
